Rarely To Be Heard

each time they pretend to hear you, you check out
preferring instead your own company, the company of clouds
small birds who never offend.

bright brimming shells
holding the rainbows still.

to you it is given to live like this
to feel the bliss of winds unsummoned
the uncommon grace of silences that sing

the music on the wing
the colour on the underside of rocks
the golden road untrod

except by God
to whom it is given also
rarely to be heard.
