the sky was an opal opening onto Dream
dream sighed the winds and the children obeyed
not knowing they were told
and stay cried the leaves when blowing, blowing away
though winter brakes not and the dream fades into grey
and the children aged
and light sped by another way
the lighthouse sweep evaded
and the acrimonious had their say
but dream, o dream the startling winds replayed
and we dreamed our way back by stages
back to the very day
we left the doorstep and the way we have come
from our fond home alone, o alone
then what can the soul say and when
when poetry falls apart
and words flare up,
lost embers.
and no one brave enough
to kindle them
again
