we look for clues in dreams
and inside every seam shaken out
or under old fern imprinted rocks
in neighborhood vacant lots
cherry pie considering
as they always do at the fairs
which wares are most
deserving
and we preserve the evidence
of old letters
tied with ribbons or not
lists of things that we forgot
recatalogued now
the things we bought
we never used
the Christmas fuse
blown out
and round a bout all day it goes
the part of us that wants to know
continuously
what happened really
and where and when
will we remember
the last piece in the jigsaw then
that makes the sky the sky
finally
over our lost Paradise
