English Essay, Last Of May

if there was a peach cola we would drink it
in jelly glasses with a little crushed ice
and wear something nice

and go to live on Peach Street when we grew up
for the rest of life
and carry our groceries all back home

in a Radio Flyer red wagon on spiffy wheels
and we would get the best deals on candy
milkshake straws and jawbreakers

and Saturday would be a way of life
when we would downtown in our tiaras
and old wedding gowns, flowered dresses from the forties

feathery fans with little pocket mirrors inset, at sunset
and be marked down
once again by the teacher

in whichever grade
for being too descriptive
for this time of day.
