Thank You Mary Poppins for The Borrowed Parasol

we'll put the stars together
in gingerbread weather
just in time

pasting the gilt backs
back and no glue coming through
just, only .the shine

so that cosmologists wonder
why are the skies so smooth
while we wonder why

(that's Jane and Michael)

they always do whenever we eat custard;
small thanks to you, Mary Poppins
with cherrries on top

and you hear the plip plop of
the rose copper coins coming through
the wishing wells and flung by you

to perfection there

how the wish came true
that you would be read to from
the pan where the gingerbread shop

had chccolate drops until late afternoon

on the avenue where it wasn't the day before
anymore anymore
we were on some golden shore

sugar fingers coming off and then, renewed
we bought dark cherry cough drops
needing them for school

and the blue came through kind of peeling
onto the other side so that the cosmologists
were reeling from some kind of feeling

it was all pasted on in the first place
just as we thought.
o lemon drops we said

you never did
it's we took the lid off
the mystical candy jar

in our fun with the peppermint bark
tomorrow, no more rain drops
we'll see the sun.from the park

she said briskly...brusquely

while we closed our eyes to
the linen stars wrinkling
in the summer skies.
