What If The Last Dream

what if the last dream comes to you earlier
earliest the one where you float among watercolours
barely off the ground in your own interior

ballets or at the keyboard shining of the piano grand
is music on the way in the flower filled winds
you don't know you don't know you say in school

each time the same answer
when they question who you are
as if this were on the curriculum

let that fragment fade.
and you hold autumns like a rosary
surely the splended sun will come

and rest among the trees
before the heart freezes over
God with us

toll the bells.
