colouring horses in unexpected colours...
later for our reward we will gallop with jeweled reins
through the apple orchards through the pink and cream
drifts of the blossoms and under a strawberry moon
you use too much colour in your story perhaps my sister fumed
until I gave her all the construction paper hearts and her own
red jumbo crayon.
this is fun she said. the horses whinnied. halfway through the mists
of the North Country folksong
coveting sugar cubes and the windfall apples marooned;
the honey butter light of the new mown hay.
