Colouring Horses

colouring horses in unexpected colours...

later for our reward we will gallop with jeweled reins

through the apple orchards through the pink and cream

drifts of the blossoms and under a strawberry moon

you use too much colour in your story perhaps my sister fumed

until I gave her all the construction paper hearts and her own

red jumbo crayon.

this is fun she said. the horses whinnied. halfway through the mists

of the North Country folksong

coveting sugar cubes and the windfall apples marooned;

the honey butter light of the new mown hay.
