THE GINGER CAT STEPS OUT

 

someday may I be the ginger cat

in the lollipop tree

stepping out oh gingerly

on the trembling branch;

thank you, to Eugene Field

or dressed in silver I shall purr

at the borders of Maeterlinck's Bluebird

or in a school play, play

Light itself in a beaded gown

or hordes of bluebirds shimmering,

impossible not to find

happiness then both yours and mine

wherever the mind with the heart takes flight

oh generations of Light

I see you now

cheering at Heaven's border

becoming my Lost and Found oh why on earth

why do we live in such distempered times

if only we could turn your pages again

and all become the morning's unhushed brilliancy

radiant birdsong.

all the delights leafed in green, in apple green

the seen and the Unseen

the beautiful imagination

retrieved.
