IN APRICOT FINERY I WOULD GO

IN APRICOT FINERY I WOULD GO

In apricot finery I would  go

With a pelisse made out of snow

With aqua accents in old books

And illustrate the printer's trade

The antique stalls with vast array

The place where I went yesterday

That vanished when I went today

Nostalgia has its price to pay

Say those who know imperiously

Who have no memories of tree

Or leaf or bough somehow

How can I trust them, let them

Tell me what to say.

The copper shine of pennies glow

And iridescent is the snow

And all the effects of Light are new

Yet they are old as well

From a certain manner of speaking.

Down the long aisle of Night's parade

Comes the bride in milky white

Oh milky way

shine on my insteps all through May

and I all dressed in apricot finery;

The soul keeps time a different way.

In its own métier
