LET THE SNOW FLY BLIND
Let the snow fly blind
The all seeing Eye will cherish it
And the traveler bent by wind in the story
The one obscure in the Japanese landscape
Even when the plum flowers douse him
Even far from the imperial courts
Where he has made his lodging
To live out his days in the orchards of poetry
So I wander too, not blind but happy
Through imagination’s periscope
To see these sequined scenes and to launch
My soul as upon the floodtide of dreams innumerable
Seems to me oh Lord God despite the traveler in
His importunate night, the possibility of his perishing
Upon a winter’s night
A pastime of inordinate delight
For which I cannot help but praise You.
