And Summer Grew Near

dreaming the clouds away
an apple blossom scattered
child sized day

and wistfulness remained.
you turned the page.
the library scented books

stacked in a row
below the goldfish bowl
in the classroom swam

and the honeysuckle bloomed
between: I may, I can
perfuming our school room

and summer grew near
as though it would never leave
for the rest of the year.
