Outside The Cafes And From The Pavements Barred

why should we live in the dark interiors
the cafes like jungles recessed
with their olde world pastries

the brittle patina of success courted
and then discarded on a whim
the bohemian

the mood they're in

I do not envy them

their coteries.
their need to see and to be seen.
why shouldn't we live more quietly

and yet in illimitable light
no one to take heed.
and write on crystal every drop

of the light we feel
our birthright
and our creed.
