Requiem For The Saints I Only Met In Books

how is it they could close their eyes
to all the circus loves, the trapeze wonderments
and enterprise

bypassing the raffling of the stars
and seek only God while the inquisitions cried
you trespass. you must die.

o galileo did I understand

earth was not central.
something else at hand
I thought I knew

startled the birds away

and I lost song.
still there is shining
even in His shade

and for so long, no trace

and so we made our way
over thorns, bone cold
and devastating.

arthur and his knights that failed
and Judas in the corner of the painting
all in yellow, paled

and I still can't understand
why they crucified the man
deceived their King

and failed to make the grade
to make the scene

and still you came
shunning everything by everything shunned as well
beyond the statues weeping blood

the wishes falling down the wishing wall
to say, this world has faded, seek the new.

forget, forget the judgement of the world
the many trials you knew just to climb one hill
the lions, stadiums and all the rest

who lived alone to see you killed

sweet rest repose be yours
who endured the world.
and turned the other way

to say: His love is best.
