The Only Country We Have Is The One We Fight For

the only country we have is the one we fight for
and every day or else soul will pass away why not
into the hereafter

were we born to be governed by mocking laughter
were we born to be this torn from our own page
to be scolded by those we elect and unmade

by those who made us not

it isnt about who is keeping score
or who has more to say on any subject;
we are.

and this is where we live
whether you think that where we live
is grand enough or not

we still have got our own courage
and God who loves us.
who is our country when all countries fail

the only country we have is the one we fight for
the open sky the ever beckoning land
the promise set from the beginning

we have yet to understand.
