someday I will live
remembering the names of flowers
as if they were my own children
Queen Anne's lace, and milkweed too
white violets I bent down to look at you
to understand the April moment
dressed in blue taffeta with a tearose corsage
and as the calender flew
snowball bushes lavender renewed or
the palest palest hint of green
in summer or the in betweens of May
gardenias I could stay in a garden with you
forever and I was in that kingdom too then
just around the corner of our house
that I grew up in snipping the blooms
for my Grandmother
my Grandmother
I dreamed was Queen of all the flowers
and my mama, the Princess.
