pale blue ribbons and the May Queen crowned
Mary beyond all care, crowned with pink rosebuds and
the shadows of lilies that keep the shade;
the shadows of lilies
and graduation's near
perhaps;not yet
the last one permitted us.
without regret I may name the myriad flowers
I will see the beauty of starlight
undiminished not cannibalized
by those who would monetize it all
by those who refuse all innocence and gladness
but welcome with pomposity the era of lies;
the myth of leadership.
I see still in the vivid colors of
the maypoles and the dancing,
the children's sunrise
still illuminating our minds
all the may colours heralding the
schools, silent and dusky all summer.
and we stand under the flowering boughs
knowing Forever
will always be this way
despite all the lies;
the cult of sinecures
beauty is otherwise; always sustaining.
this emblematic May
always to me, this way.
